Reminder: Say yes to play

I was reminded of a very important lesson during a conversation with a client last week: sometimes I need a reminder, especially when I get bogged down in all the stuff on my To Do List on top of ALL THE STUFF that's happening in the world.

Today's reminder: Say yes to play.

I get it if your reaction is one or more of the following:

  1. Easy for you to say, Jill.

  2. I'm a grown ass adult with responsibilities. I don't have time to play.

  3. Law school is where play goes to die. I can't even remember how.

  4. I tried playing once. I didn't like it.

I'm glad Adele and The Roots said YES! (Click on the photo above to watch the video!)

I'm not suggesting that your version of play requires a band, television show, and international superstar singer. Play comes in all shapes, sizes, forms, and flavors. Yours is as unique as you are.

Play is important for a number of reasons. First, it's fun and often involves other beings. Laughter and connection are two ways to complete the stress cycle. Second, play supports and builds positive emotion, which powers an upward spiral that will improve your life. Finally, play is a catalyst for making memories that may last a lifetime. What do you want to remember at the end of your life? How do you want to be remembered?

Play is an endeavor worth your time and attention. You've just got to remember to DO IT.

How are you saying YES to play today?

P.S. Not sure how to get started with play? Jumpstart can help!

This one resonates with me, Jill! And if you happen to assemble an ensamble, I would love to give a shot at playing the clapping hands that QuestLove shows in the photo. 🙂
